Our Lovely Trip To Paris

random | Tuesday February 28th 2006

This past weekend Mar and I had the incredible pleasure of spending a few days and nights in Paris...what a city! And what wonderful people! I'm sure it helped that Mar is fluent in French, so we were able to easily slip into the culture, but even so it was just a wonderful city to experience.

Despite the chill of cold weather, we tromped all over the city, finding it actually very easy to get around. Snacking on yummy crepes, meeting wonderfully friendly people, and seeing all of the famous sights w...

The World Wide Web Returns To A Home Near...Us!

play blog | Friday February 17th 2006

I almost don't believe it as I say this, but it's true: Mar and I have internet access at our London flat! This is a stupendous occasion, and much to our delight, it is free and wireless. And we have Thames Online to thank for it!

The discovery came early this morning, as I rose to go on a morning run. I opened up my computer just to read over some things from the night before, and instantly got a "Would you like to...

Swamped With Work, So Look Elsewhere For Juicy News

play blog | Thursday December 08th 2005

Currently I'm chasing down the last quarter of a 100-yard dash here at school, otherwise known as the group paper and presentation due Monday morning. Back that up to the web forum application due the following day, and you should be able to picture my flushed face and the pace of my sprinting legs. I'm out of breath to say the least.

So if you're looking for some of the latest news on life over here, I can direct you to two sites. Mar has conti...

The Art of Double-Decker Bus-Hopping

play blog | Wednesday November 23rd 2005

One of my favorite things to do in London is ride its public transport system. I find it very soothing to have someone else drive for a change. If there's traffic, it allows me more time to read. If there's a technical difficulty, there's always another bus "10-12 minutes" behind you. And as a newbie to this city, peering about from 15 feet off the ground really helps you get to know a place!

But this love did not come all at once. To really get along with the public transport, you need to know it w...

Some Views From Our Front Balcony

random | Tuesday November 22nd 2005
A thumbnail from the post's photo gallery

Well with Mar's wonderful family visiting this week, we have been reminded just how beautiful our views are from our London flat. And not only are they beautiful views, but they're always a little different. We also have two very distinct views: our front balcony, off of our living room and kitchen, looks directly down on the Thames River, with Canary Wharf just on the other side. Our back balcony, off of our bedroom, gives a distant view of the city center, complete with views of the London Eye, Tower Bridge,...

Mar and me in front of the Eiffel Tower

Paris or Bust! is just one of the great posts that Mar posted over on her site, Marmerm.com. Please go check out this fantastic series of galleries!

Devils Tower, Wyoming

Devils Tower, Wyoming was one of the most breathtaking sights during our mid-west National Park tour this past summer.

A black and white picture of climbing shoes and a caribiner

This Spring of 2005, Marjan was enrolled in an Ethnophotography class at UVa. The course's final project was a "photo essay" on any particular subject. She chose rock climbing, conveniently, which required many trips outdoors to document and depict on film.

Surfing on the James River

Here's proof that it is in fact possible to surf some waves on the James River.

The Egg Baby Marjan

Find more pictures of surfing on the James River at this post, but the best thing to come out of this day was the birth of the "Egg Baby Marjan".
