What The *Bleep* Do We Know!?
Monday October 18th 2004
This past weekend a few of us when to see What The Bleep Do We Know, and boy was it ever a mental ride down the rabbit hole of Life. In a word, it attempted to apply quantum physics to the physical, metaphysical, and spiritual world around us, offering both theory and science to the ageless burning questions of humanity: Who are we? Why are we here? Who/What is God? Obviously this was not your normal movie, but as filmmaker William Arntz said, they made a wild assumption when they made this movie: that the audience was Intelligent. Hollywood, of course, didn't buy it and so the movie initially opened up in one theater out in Washington State. But lo and behold, Arntz and his team were right (thank goodness), and the movie has caught on and spread across the nation.
There were about 8 related messages that the movie attempted to get across, so I believe we each walked away with something different to think about. For me it was really an affirmation of a belief I've felt in my gut for years now: that the energy and emotion that you put into life will be reflected back upon you. Yet the movie supports this on a much more molecular level than I would have ever imagined. The movie presents the science of peptides/receptors, and how our body's cells become adapted to and even addicted to certain peptides produced under certain emotional stresses or situations. Over long-term exposure, the body's cells actually become less receptive to peptides that reprecent opposing emotions. The result is a human form full of cells that are all addicted to, say, anxiety, or depression, or victimization, or joy.
This notion speaks to me on such a fundamental level, and feel that it is applicable across every aspect of one's life. From the job you have to the love you experience, to even the health of your body, everything starts with attidude and energy. Be positive, and be rewarded with positive.
To me this movie was a call to action, a charge, a challenge. It also held the position that the energy you give off (positive or negative) not only affects you, but the people and world around you. So with every positive thought you have, not only are you helping yourself, but you're making the world a better place. It seems like more than ever this message needs to be gotten across to every person on this planet, but especially to my fellow brothers and sisters here in the U.S. Because the vibe this nation has been giving off--between ourselves and to other nations--has had a very sour, very negative taste to it, and I firmly believe that the only thing we will get in return is "More Of The Same."
*sigh*
