What I Saw That Day
Monday October 04th 2004
This post is more to amuse myself than anything else, really. I had a chance to get my hands on a quality camera (with a quality strong lens to be specific) the other week, and took the opportunity to test my natural-born abilities at picture-taking. Capturing a "moment" on film is a skill that fascinates and mystifies me, and is something I would love to master one day. These 6 photos turned out well I thought, on some basic levels of balance and composition. However I did a poor job of focusing on my subjects (you should've seen the pictures I didn't post), and I obviously have a lot to learn for lighting and such. I touched them up a bit in Photoshop to put on their best faces, but let's face it, they were amateur at best. . .
But perhaps there are a couple of "greater goods" that this post does signal. The first is that from this point forward, I will make a concerted effort to be a tad more selective of the photography and imagery that goes up on this site. For the past year or so I've been putting anything under the sun up for the sake of content and sheer volume, but now it's time to put that notion to bed. As any good web developer knows, a site is nothing without compelling content, and quantity never adds up to quality. To that end, I may even go through some older posts and conduct a little purging there as well.
However an even greater good is that with this post, I can introduce you to my Marjan. For most there is no need for an introduction; for others, I'm sorry that you need one at all, because you're missing out. Myself, I'm just a lucky buck that has caught her eye. Anyway, there's no need to gush, but just be pleased to meet her, and expect to see more of her.
Oh, and among her many magical talents, she's a killer photographer (guess whose camera I got to use on this day), so she'll be the source of most of my "improved" photography. . . That is, of course, until I set up her own site and she leaves me forever for the big time of PhotoBlogging celebrity status. . .
