Yes, that's correct, a *free* iPod. It arrived about three weeks ago, dog-tired from a two-day delivery voyage from Delray Beach, Florida, shrink-wrapped neatly in its original packaging. 40Gigs of pure musical joy.
Marjan of course is the prime candidate for an iPod, being the "freaker by the speaker"/Indie rocker/Plan 9 worker/music fan she is. So much so that a Mini (or even a Shuffle now that those exist) would not have cut it to hold her massive CD/tape/vinyl collection, both of which are marginally affordable in these budget-conscious times. So it would have seemed that for the time being we were just out of luck to gift her with such a prized possession as a full-sized iPod. And then one day I was online and found a personal testament to a "Win a Free iPod" being a legit deal. It was October 2004, and I thought, "Hmmm, just in time for Christmas!"
Well, jump forward nearly half a year, long beyond Christmas, and New Years, and Valentine's Day, and any other Hallmark occasion, and it finally arrived. If you're out there, wanting to win your own free iPod, rest assured it's possible. But be warned: it takes a lot of time and effort. Not money, just time and effort. You can judge the value of that for yourself...
