Conquering XTerra Richmond 2004

Sunday June 13th 2004

The weekend the XTerra Off-Road Triathlon comes to Richmond could be one of the most dependable, good-times weekends ever (second to the Easter Parade, of course). It brings the top athletes from around the world and puts them in our back yard; shows off the depth and possibility of the "natural" and athletic side of Richmond; and brings out the unstoppable superstars in all of my friends.

Everyone had the best times they could ask for, from Emily shaving a good 15 minutes from her previous year's performance in the XTerra Sport, to Tom making a fantastic return after not being able to compete last year because of his broken collar bone. Susan crossed the finish line with a huge smile as she smashed the under-4-hour mark (oh, and it was her first time racing the full-distance course!), and Laura stepped up to the plate as the 3rd member of Team RockSteady (plus myself and BB), and cruised across the finish line in 44 minutes (for an off-road 10k!) and winning us a 1st place in the co-ed division. Erin was the fearless photographer on Sunday after competing in the 10k Scramble on Saturday (a nasty tumble in last year's XTerra Sport held her back from attacking the full course this year--and I'm sure her liver thanks her).
