Discovering Blogs, Discovering Eris
Friday June 18th 2004
That's right, I have been consumed with the existence, charm, and magnetic forces of the blogging world. For year's I've assumed it to be about nonsense; daily drivel and drama that you used to write in your diary. And while I've never kept a journal, the idea has still always intrigued me. . .
Yet my stumbling-upon-blogs moment didn't come over a some nonsensical, just-for-humor story about a guy standing in the bathroom queue, but rather while chasing the nuggets of golden knowledge out there about CSS and web standards. And suddenly, it's like I've found my People.
It's a community of web-lover-web-haters, designer-programmers, style liasons. We struggle to find the line between the web as work, and the web as play. . .
. . . I'm babbling. For now, the point is that I found this site by a designer in Dallas, TX. She designs CSS templates, and gives them out for free. And she also sounds successful and busy as can be--and she should be, her work is fantastic. She inspires me; those are the kinds of projects I want to muddle with in my free time. Or better yet, pay me for it so that I can still have a life filled with friends and sports and the real reasons to get up in the morning.
Update 06-20-2004
And now I've found a local CSS/PHP/design guru, and he's a whopping 18 (est.) years old. I found John Whittet while perusing the CSS Zen Garden. Congrats on graduating from h.s. John. I wish I had some wise words of wisdom for you, but right now I'm envious of your talent, potential, and position, so I think you're doing just fine by yourself. Cheers to a Richmonder. . .
